What is History?

The phrase historia comes from the ancient Greek phrase “learning through inquiry”.

History is often referred to as the never ending conquest to understand the past.

For myself, History is a story of the past we study in order to understand how we got here and in a way to understand the trajectory of the future.

Historians are not fortune tellers, or speculative, but we have a good general idea of what could happen and why it could happen, thru looking at examples of the past.

History for me is not silent. History is like a lion, it roars.

It is not a story of events. It is a story of conflict, between rulers, and conflict between the rulers and the ruled. Essentially, history is not a objective story, it is one of perspectives. History is about class struggle, and class repression by those who rule.

We are living in history right now, and we are making it if we choose so. Our lives are only memories of the past. Ourselves are only history. Essentially History is the human memory, and the human story documenting the failures and achievements of the species.

History is a story that is told by many different people, from many different perspectives and in many different languages. What we live in now, our lives, the political struggles and the cultural structure of society shapes our reality, and our reality becomes history.

History at the same time shapes our reality. It allows us to unconsciously be controlled by those who are powerful, as they teach us fake patriotism and blind obedience. As they gloss over the horrors, and struggles that million of people died for and as they paint a picture of false hypnotic illusions.
